- World War II interrupted by college education and I became a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

- I played defensive cornerback for the New York Giants from 1949-55.

- I coached the Dallas Cowboys from 1960-1988.

- I was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.

- My fedora is the second most famous hat in football behind Bear Bryant's.
